Hi Kurt & Karen,

I just was browsing thru my "paperwork factory" here, and was looking at the death record of my grandpa Joe (husband of Theresa Stroinski). It's a copy of the State of Wisconsin document. On the record, his father is shown as JOSEPH MATHIA and his mother is shown as MARY SLOMIANKA (notice the "L" instead of the "T").

I'll be able to verify this when I get the films in hand and start reading them ----- but perhaps, when you found the birth record of FRANZ, was the mother's name written SLOMIANKA ---- where they write the "L" with a line through it? ..... so that when a person "reads" it, it might be interpreted as a "T" ?? (Hopefully, you can understand what I'm trying to ask ----- but I do know that the Polish alphabet has two kinds of "L's": one with the little line & one without.

Happy Halloween!
Bob
